Cooler Weather and Vintage Sweaters

Now with school starting and the season starting to change, I am trying to adjust to the cooler weather. Fall is my favorite time of year. Fall colors, sweater weather, and esp Halloween!

Some of the best sweaters that I own are ones that I have found in a vintage shop or on Etsy.
I find it so satisfying finding great priced, unique pieces to add to my closet but if you are someone who is new to thrift or vintage shopping, it can be frustrating getting used to the differences in the sizing.
Here are some tips I use when I am wanting to buy something online and am unable to try it on and am unsure about the fit and the sizing.

A few things to keep in mind when buying vintage pieces online, #1 the fabric, and #2 the era of the piece. I have found that the older the era, the smaller the overall fit is. One thing to keep in mind is not to focus on the number but the sizing. I have several pieces that the label reads a size 12 but I am a size 4-6 in stores such as J.Crew.

A few things I rarely buy thrift or vintage are shoes and pants. I mostly stick to blouses and dresses but that's just my personal preference.
A few other things I look for when thrift shopping is if there is pilling on sweaters or if there are any snags in the material or noticeable discoloration.
Also, I try to buy from vintage or thrift shops vs. individual sellers solely based on trust. When a seller has a little shop or small business, they are more likely, to be honest about the quality and sizing of the item, and for the most part, they have the item professionally cleaned prior to selling, which is worth paying a little extra because there is nothing worst than buying a piece online and when it arrives, it has undisclosed flaws or strange odors that ruin the garment and only cause you frustration.

Here are some vintage size charts that you may find helpful.

So with all that in mind, hope that helps you the next time you are thrift shopping.
Thank you for reading!
